L’appello, promosso dai dipendenti del “Maggio”, fa seguito al clima di grande preoccupazione per le sorti della Fondazione lirico-sinfonica fiorentina nel futuro riassetto delle attività dello spettacolo.

Egregio Ministro,
il taglio dei finanziamenti alle Fondazioni lirico-sinfoniche e a tutto il mondo della cultura italiana colpirà in modo pesantissimo anche il TEATRO DEL MAGGIO MUSICALE FIORENTINO minando la sua stessa esistenza e il suo futuro.
Nella vita artistica di Firenze la musica ha avuto un ruolo fondamentale: qui, nella città di Cherubini, è nato alla fine del ’500, sulle teorie e le esperienze della Camerata dei Bardi, il melodramma. Il 9 dicembre 1928 ha visto la luce, grazie all’opera di Vittorio Gui, la prima stagione della Stabile Orchestra Fiorentina, quel complesso che sarebbe diventato l’Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, intorno alla quale si è sviluppato il Teatro e di lì a poco il più antico Festival europeo, insieme a quello di Bayreuth e di Salisburgo.
Sul palcoscenico del Teatro del Maggio si sono alternati i nomi più prestigiosi della musica del Novecento, come ad esempio Erich e Carlos Kleiber, Celibidache, Karajan e Mitropoulos, Maria Callas, Richard Strauss e Stravinskij, Messiaen e Berio; al loro fianco registi e scenografi di eccezione quali Reinhardt, Gründgens e Visconti, de Chirico e Kokoschka.
Per questi motivi Le chiedo, insieme al mio amico RICCARDO MUTI, che prima di me, dal 1969 al 1981, è stato Direttore Stabile del Maggio, che il Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, con la sua storia costellata di premi della critica e per il suo prestigio mondiale, sia riconosciuto tra le eccellenze nazionali in quanto parte fondamentale del patrimonio culturale, artistico e sociale del Paese, da preservare e valorizzare.

In Florence's artistic life, music has played a fundamental role. Here, melodrama (musical drama) was created at the end of the 1500s, based on the theories and experience of the Camerata dei Bardi.
On 9th December 1928, thanks to the work of Vittorio Gui, the first season of the Stabile Orchestra Fiorentina was brought to life. This ensemble later became the orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, around which the theatre was built. From there, the oldest European Music Festival, together with those of Bayreuth and Salzburg, originated. On the stage of the Teatro del Maggio, this century's most prestigious names in music, such as Erich and Carlos Kleiber, Celibidache, Karajan and Mitropoulos, Maria Callas, Richard Strauss and Stravinskij, Messiaen and Berio have appeared. Along with them, outstanding stage directors and set designers - such as Reinhardt, Grundgens, Visconti, Ronconi, de Chirico and Kokoschka - have worked.
It is for this reason that, together with my friend and predecessor, RICCARDO MUTI, Principal conductor of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino from 1969 to 1981, I ask that the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, because of its history filled with critics’ awards and of the prestige it enjoys worldwide, be recognized as one of the most important Italian treasures, a fundamental part of the country’s cultural, artistic and social patrimony that should be preserved and enhanced.

die Kürzung der Finanzierung der opernsinfonischen Fondation und der gesamten italienischen Kulturvielfalt trifft in besonderer Härte auch das Theater des Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florenz, gefährdet dessen Existenz und weitere Zukunft.
Im künstlerischen Leben von Florenz hat die Musik immer eine fundamentale Rolle gespielt.Hier, in der Stadt Cherubinis wurde Ende des 16. Jahrhunderts, basierend auf den Theorien und Erfahrungen der Camerata der Bardi, das Genre der Oper geboren.
Am 9. Dezember 1928 eröffnete, dank der intensiven Arbeit Vittorio Guis, die erste Spielzeit des Stabile Orchestra Fiorentina, des später umbenannten Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. Auf diesem basierend entwickelte sich das Theater und kurz danach entstand hier eines der ältesten Musik- und Opernfestivals Europas, etwa zeitgleich mit Bayreuth und Salzburg.
Auf der Bühne des Theaters des Maggio präsentierten sich die herausragendsten Persönlichkeiten der Musikwelt des 20. Jahrhunderts, wie zum Beispiel Erich und Carlos Kleiber, Celibidache, Karajan und Mitropoulos, Maria Callas, Richard Strauss und Igor Stravinsky, Messiaen und Berio; ihnen zur Seite standen so grosse Regisseure und Bühnenbildner wie Reinhardt, Gründgens und Visconti, de Chirico und Kokoschka.
Aufgrunddessen ersuche ich Sie, zusammen mit meinem Freund RICCARDO MUTI, der vor mir, von 1969 bis 1981 Chefdirigent des Maggios war, das Theater des Maggio Musicale Fiorentino mit seiner traditionsreichen, preisgekrönten Geschichte und weltweiter Anerkennung, in seiner Einmaligkeit für das nationale Kulturerbe in künstlerischer wie sozialer Hinsicht, zu bewahren, erhalten und wertzuschätzen.

Dans la vie artistique de Florence la musique a joué un role fondamental. Ici, dans la ville de Cherubini, à la fin du XVIème siècle, est né le mélodrame basé sur les théories et expériences de la "Camerata dei Bardi".
Le 9 décembre 1928, gràce au travail de Vittorio Gui, la première saison du “Stabile Orchestra Fiorentina”, qui plus tard deviendra l’Orchestre du Mai Musical Florentin, vit le jour.
C’est autour de cet orchestre que s’est développé le Théâtre du même nom et peu de temps après, le plus ancien festival italien et européen avec celui de Bayreuth et Salzbourg.
La scène du Théâtre du Mai Musical Florentin a vu défiler les artistes les plus prestigieux du XXème siècle comme Erich et Carlos Kleiber, Celibidache, Karajan et Mitropoulos, Maria Callas, Richard Strauss et Stravinsky, Messiaen et Berio; à leurs cotés des metteurs en scène et scénographes d’exception tels que Reinhardt, Gründgens et Visconti, Chirico e Kokoschka.
C’est pour cela que je vous demande, avec mon ami et prédécesseur RICCARDO MUTI, qui fut directeur principal du Mai Musical Florentin de 1969 à 1981, que le Théatre du Mai Musical Florentin, avec son histoire récompensée de prix par la critique et pour le prestige qui lui est attribué mondialement, soit reconnu comme l’un des trésors nationaux à préserver et valoriser en raison de sa place fondamentale au sein du patrimoine culturel, artistique et social du pays.
